Afterdrop is the sneaky one. When you're in cold water, blood vessels in your arms and legs clamp down to protect your core. When you get out, those vessels reopen and cold blood from your limbs flushes back to the center — so your core temperature can keep falling for several minutes after you exit (Tipton 2017).
